Hollywood has come and gone for Jim and Penny, the TV movie about the Classmate Murders has been filmed and shown on TV and their lives are back to normal now. A woman comes into Jim's office one day from a mystery writers organization requesting Jim to join them on a luxury cruise of the Pacific Ocean to give a speech about his book, movie and his adventures being a P.I. but once Jim and Penny have sailed port the fun begins. It seems mystery writers are a murderous bunch of people and someone doesn't like a few of the writers and a book agent, so people are turning up dead. The Captain of the liner decides to enlist Jim in the hunt for the killer before the cruise goes south. Jim and Penny are joined by Buck and Maria as they try to solve the crime and give the mystery writers something to write about in this ninth book of the Jim Richards murder novels.

will have to read the story for that information.
You will get to go to Hawaii and Tahiti though, so there are
some good times to be had on this free cruise.

I usually love Bob Moats books. But this one didn't seem to be as good as the others. I thought it was a little slow and it wasn't edited very well. All in all, not too bad, but not as good as his others.
This is the 9th Bob Moats book I have read and I love them. Jim is asked to go on an all expense paid cruise for mystery authors. Of course he says yes and Penny goes along too. There are three murders that get solved by Jim, his friends and some help from the FBI. I love to cruise and I felt like I was on that ship. I read five of these books and then take a break. I don't want to run out of Jim and Penny Mysteries. I highly recommend this series.
These stories had me hooked after the first few pages of the first in the series. The fact that I'm over sixty might have helped since Jim Richards is sixty but these stories should interest anyone of any age there exciting and well written and once I start one I can't put it down till I'm finished
I have read most of the books but much of it is he said and she said. Sometimes the wrong words are used and you have to go back and read a setence a few times to figure out the meaning. But if you can get passed that, really great books. I love to read them while at the doctor or on break. I started wtih Classmate Murders and continue to read every one after. I'm running out of books so he needs to write more. If the grammar and punctuation were corrected prior to reading, I would give all of Jim Rchards Murder novels a 5.
Really enjoy the Jim Richards series. Made you feel like you were on the cruise with them. Fun reads. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because of all the grammatical errors.
Moats is perhaps the worst writer who is still readable due to his likable characters. His works are filled with misspellings, poor sentence construction, the overuse of the word "and" (up to three "ands" in a single sentence and once 5 "ands" in a single paragraph with only four sentences). Very often his use of "and" should have been replaced either with the word "to" or a simple period. He feels compelled to attribute his quotes to each character when it is clear in the context which character is speaking. Besides "I said" and "she said" the attribution "I grinned" and "I smiled" are particular favorites. He should have been writing for weekly one hour TV mystery shows doing only plot outlines at which he excels. This said, his books are addictive, fun, easy reads. And oh yes, He is also prolific so you can indulge often in the guilty pleasure of reading a very successful, lousy writer.
The best way to read the Jim Richards sleuth series is in order...that way, you get to know, understand and like the characters.
In the book that started it all, "Classmate Murders," we meet Jim Richards, a senior citizen living with his elderly parents, helping his mom take care of his ailing dad. While I did not appreciate it at first, this was a subtle clue as to the heart of the character - at first, I merely thought of him as an aging loser, without realizing there was so much more to the man than his current circumstances.
Sure enough, before the first book ended, his courage, his heart and his smarts had elevated him and his life.
Without giving away any of the plot, "Mystery Cruise Murders" is #9 (if memory serves me correctly!) in the Jim Richards series and takes place aboard a cruise ship. Of course, wherever Jim and Penny go, goes murder, or so it seems, even on the high seas. Despite the subject matter, this book, like all the others in the series, is fun and entertaining, with some light-hearted moments. Jim once again shows his compassion for others through his generosity; with each subsequent book in this series, you learn more and more about each of the characters and what makes them so endearing. I'm looking forward to the next one, which is waiting for me in the app on my iPad right now.
